Weather: sunny, cool early with a very light frost. Temperature rose to upper 60's later. Woods very open with red bud trees in full bloom and dogwood trees beginning to bloom. Very little green in the woods yet, but with the weather getting warm it will get green fast this week. Thank you to everyone who came. A big thank you to everyone who helped.

Our annual NJROTC orienteering training camp was held at Camp McDowell (between Jasper and Double Springs, AL). It is a beautiful place to orienteer with some nice fields, and great canyons adjacent to the Bankhead National Forest and just south of the Sipsey Wilderness Area.
This was our 10th year for the camp and the 5th year at Camp McDowell. There were about 275 people in attendance at the camp from 20 high schools from around the South. About 200 JROTC cadets went out into the woods learning about orienteering. Headland High School NJROTC with Major Odom is the sponsoring school for the event.

Weather: The weather was a little on the cold side. We actually had around 2 inches of snow on Saturday morning. Mark Johnson, the director of Camp McDowell, says we always bring the cold weather with us. There were quite a few schools in attendance from Florida with cadets that had never seen snow before. Luckily, this was one of those snows that looked very nice for a while and soon disappeared when the sun came out.
