Weather: Sunny with a nice breeze with temperature in the 70's. There was a rain of about 0.9 inches overnight on Friday, but the woods were pretty dry by the time everyone went out.Great turnout: 38 starts (e-sticks going out) with a total of 90 people going out.One mistake on course setting on my part. The electronic boxes for #123 and #124 were switched. Only one person mentioned it. Because it was a score meet, it did not affect any results.Thank you to Daniel Bond and Beth McCandless for helping with the registration. The extra help sure helped this morning with the groups of people that turned out today. The nice pink string and pink cord locks seems to be working. No lost e-sticks again. Also a big thank you to Daniel Bond and Ranger Daniel Jordan who helped with control pickup.Thank you to Yuriy for proving that it was possible to visit all of the controls well within the 3 hour time limit. Daniel was one control short of visiting them all and still did not have any penalties. He probably could have made the last control, but it would have been a close call.Interesting notes: I saw a hummingbird out in the woods near the lake. I've got several visiting my feeder, but I have never seen one out in the woods. Dave Peebles came across a turkey nest near control 114. Dave said the turkey was not too happy with him being around her nest. Ranger Daniel Jordan went out to look at the nest and took some pictures and picked up control 114 while he was there. I'll see if I can get a picture of the nest with the eggs. We also had a report of a giant rattle snake in the area near control 120 (the spring). They said it was extremely large in diameter and made almost no noise because it had only two buttons of the rattle. I did not see it when I went to pick up the control, but I did jump about 20 feet when I stepped on a long stick that moved the leaves a few feet away from me while I was approaching the control. I also saw a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers near control 121. Largest woodpecker around (about the size of a crow). There are quite a few of them all over Oak Mtn.The OR e-punch software test went well. No problems with registration and results. The only drawback was having to type in the e-stick numbers, but it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be and I had no typing mistakes with the numbers. I did have a penalty enabled that penalized people 10 points per minute for going over the 3 hour time limit. Quite a few going over the time limit resulting in one score of zero and a few negative scores.VOC April 2008 Score-O
